Johnny Heitinga is not known as a wayfaring man - but the 31-year-old defender could now join his third club in the last three seasons after his short stops at the Craven Cottage and at Berlin's Olympiastadion.

Admittedly, the Dutchman is not looking for a new adventure, but could come back to his own roots. After leaving his childhood club Alphense Racing Club, Heitinga stayed at AFC Ajax for a stunning 18 years, making his first Ajax appearance in 2001 in a 2-1 win in De Klassieker at Feyenoord Rotterdam.

Ajax, who let the reliable defender go to Atletico Madrid back in 2008, want to bring him back to the Netherlands now, Voetbal International reports today.

Ajax's director of football Marc Overmars has hinted his wish to sign the Dutchman this summer in today's interview with De Telegraaf: "We'll have a meeting scheduled at the end of the week."

The 2010 World cup finalist is also said to receive inquiries from Italy, the United States and the Middle East - but returning to his home country would probably be a dream which could become real.
