Agnieszka Radwanska beat Carla Suarez-Navarro in straight sets to reach her second Australian Open semi-final. Winning 6-1 6-3, the world number three showed her experience in a match where she was rarely troubled. After reaching the semi-finals in 2014, the Pole went into the match knowing she had a great shot at reaching the semi-finals.

Radwanska set the precedent early on, breaking in the first set before following up swiftly with another break to take a 3-0 lead. Continuing this trend in the first set, Radwanska would go on to drop just the one game in the first set, eventually taking it 6-1.

Tighter second set

The second set was to be a much tighter affair with four breaks in a row as Suarez-Navarro looked to make her way back into the match. However it was to be too little too late as Radwanska broke once more before serving the match out, taking her first match point to seal her place in the semi-finals.

In what has been a great start to 2016 for Radwanska after winning the title in Shenzhen, the Pole has now extended her record for this year to 10-0. After going out in the round of 16 last year to Venus Williams, she will enjoy the ranking point that she has gained this time round.

Return to the top ten?

As for Suarez-Navarro, it has been a successful tournament for the Spaniard who is known as a mainstay on tour but cannot always transfer her form to the Grand Slams. Like Radwanska, the Spaniard will also be happy with the ranking points boost after going out in the first round last year to Carina Witthoeft. With aims of getting back into the top ten, this tournament would have done her chances no harm.

Next up for Radwanska is Serena Williams after the American notched yet another win against Maria Sharapova.
