French Open 2016: Ruthless Muguruza proves too strong for Georges

On a day when one of her rivals sent out a message of resiliance, Garbine Muguruza sent out one of domination as she comfortably swept aside the hapeless Frenchwoman Myrtille Georges in a straight sets victory.  Following on from Simona Halep's hard-fought win,  Muguruza wasted little time at all in seeing off the 203rd ranked Georges 6-2 6-0.

Georges starts off strongly before Muguruza's class shines through

Although she initially produced a sprited fight in the early embers of the match, saving break points in her opening service games, the inexperience of Georges soon began to show as the power and intelligence of Muguruza slowly tore down the Frenchwoman's meagre defence.  Notching up ten games on the trot without breaking sweat, the fourth seeded Spaniard sent a warning to the baying French crowd that her blood was not theirs for the taking.

Breaking her oppenent to love in the final game of the match to seal the second set bagel and her progress into the third round, where she will play either Ekaterina Makarova, the dwindling Russian, or Yanina Wickmayer, the Belgian, the game epitomised the previous ten.  Georges couldn't lay a glove on the Spaniard.

'Yeah the wind sometimes is tricky but I am very happy to be through into the third round.'  She told former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli after the match.  '(On Georges) I think she was nervous but played very well and for sure she will have more opportunities to play here.'

Having reached the semi finals back in 2014, where she shocked the tennis world by defeating Serena Williams in the second round, in an open draw she will be hoping to go even further.  She is sure to face sterner challenges ahead, with Halep lying in wait at the semi final stage, but today Muguruza demonstrated a ruthless streak that could prove vital in the matches to come.
