British Swimming's renaissance continued on Day 3 of the World Championship in Kazan, as James Guy came out on top against a stacked field to win GB's second Gold of the Championships so far, in the mens 200m freestyle final.

Guy, 19, won Silver in Sunday's 400m free final behind Sun Yang of China, but the positions were reversed in Tuesday's final.

Guy takes Gold

The Brit clocked 1.54.14, six hundreths ahead of his Asian rival, with world record-holder Paul Biedermann of Germany taking Bronze. Ryan Lochte and Chad Le Clos finished in fourth and sixth.

It was South African Le Clos who took the race to the field in the first 50m but tired at the 100 mark. American Lochte was utilizing his trademark turning power and kept ahead of the field, turning for home in first place, with Yang, Guy and Biedermann chasing hard.

As Lochte sprang off the wall, Yang pipped him to the touch and turned for home in first, with Lochte in second. James Guy was hot on his tail, and with 30m to go, surged past him, but with Yang in Lane 2 coming strong, the teen had to hold on.

In a typically tense finish, Yang, Guy and also the German Biedermann in seven, were neck in neck. It looked as though the German may take the win, but Guy held on to take Gold and his second medal of the Championships. Lochte who led with 25m to go, finished outside of the medals.

Guy's win was seemingly a British catalyst, as Monday's 100 Breaststroke gold-medallist Adam Peaty broke the world record in the 50m and set up another head-to-head with South African Cameron van den Burgh, on Wednesday.
