Shelby Miller and Ryan Vogelsong were set to do battle in game 4 of the NLCS. Vogelsong had one of the greatest ERA's in postseason history, and Miller had been shut-down himself this year. So, of course, they'd both find an early exit.

Matt Carpenter lead the game off with the double into the outfield gap. Matt Adams would single him in to give the St. Louis Cardinals an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

In the bottom of the first, Gregory Blanco would double after, John Jay dropped his ball on the dead run. Joe Panik would single and Buster Posey's sac-fly tied the game.

In the top of the second Gregory Blanco would take his turn at dropping the ball on the dead run, to give Kolten Wong a double to lead off the inning. A.J. Pierzynski would single him in for a 2-1 lead.

Top of the the third history was made. Matt Holliday doubled into the right field corner to be the fifth consecutive lead-off man to reach base in a playoff game. Peralta would hit into a double play later in the inning, but Holliday scored from third making it 3-1. Kolten Wong would hammer a solo shot for a 4-1 third inning lead.

In the bottom of the third the Giants would make it a game again. Posey would grab another RBI off a single and Pence would get Posey in making it 4-3.

By the time the fourth had concluded, both Vogelsong and Miller were gone. It was now all up to the bullpens and the bats. The vaunted big game hurlers would have to sit and look.

The bottom of the fifth gave us some drama. After Hunter Pence got on first, he stole second base but Mike Matheny challenged  the call. The review would show that Pence was safe. Matheny had blown his only challenge.

In the bottom of the sixth, the fireworks started back up. With second and third, one out, there was a grounder hit to first-baseman Matt Adams. Adams stumbled and his throw to home was too late to get a sliding Blanco. 4-4 the game was tied. On the next play, Crawford score from third on a bad throw from Adams on an attempt to turn a 3-4 double play. SF led 6-4 at the end of six, after Posey drove in yet another run.

The top of the 7th showed signs of life for the Cardinals. After two quick outs, Jon Jay drew a walk on a full count. Matt Holliday promptly singled into left to set up a lefty vs. lefty match up between Javier Lopez and Matt 'Big City' Adams. Adams would ground out to second to end the rally.

The Giants bullpen would slam the door and win game four. Now the St. Louis Cardinals are on the ropes. Game five is tomorrow at 8:07 p.m. ET. Adame Wainwright will take on the Giants' Madison Bumgarner. Bumgarner has been out standing this post-season. Wainwright has been very disappointing. This is Wainwright's and the Cardinals' last chance to step up and get the job done. One win can get them back home where they are a very tough out.
