The Pittsburgh Pirates made a small move earlier today acquiring utility infielder Sean Rodriguez in exchange for a player to be named later.

Rodriguez suffered through a rough 2014 hitting .211/.258/.443, but did well in the power department belting a career high 12 home runs and having more than half of his hits go for extra bases. Rodriguez is also a bounce back candidate due to his .235 BABIP which is well below his .275 career mark.

The deal also gives the Pirates some much needed depth at shortstop while the team waits for prospect Alen Hanson as the position hit .258/.308/.378, while the average and on-base percentage are better than Rodriguez, he provided some extra pop that could be helpful in a bench role.
