The Baltimore Orioles and Everth Cabrera have reportedly been close to a deal for about a week. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the two sides have finally come to an agreement. Heyman reports that the Orioles have signed Cabrera to a one-year-deal worth $2.4 million with the opportunity to earn an extra $600,000 in incentives.

The 28-year-old veteran infielder was non-tendered by the San Diego Padres earlier this off-season after an uninspiring 2014 season where he hit .232/.272/.300 in 357 at-bats. Cabrera is a speedster with a career .248/.319/.333 slash line and 136 stolen bases in 174 attempts.

He has run in to some trouble throughout his career, including a suspension for PED use in 2013. While there is certainly some risk involved for the Orioles, Cabrera is a nice veteran piece who brings infield depth to their squad. He has a chance to get some serious playing time, as the Orioles have a hole at the second base position.

This move may not move the needle much in the American League East, but it is a solid acquisition for the Orioles as they look to compete for a playoff spot this season.
