On Tuesday night the Premier Boxing Championships made a quick turnaround for three exciting fights. In the main event Austin Trout (30-2) landed a vicious body shot to Joey Hernandez (24-4-1) that sent him to the canvas. Hernandez had a tough time making weight and it showed as the fight went on. Trout set him up with a snapping jab which was always followed by a combination. He was poised and precise and even dealt with an ill-advised body slam by Hernandez. That seemed to be just the spark Trout needed as he upped his work and went often to body of Hernandez. Once he landed the big blow to the body, Hernandez was unable to recover and was officially counted out. It was a great performance by Trout, who feels he is next in line to claim the top stop in his division. Tonight’s performance is exactly what he needed to head in that direction.

A big shot by Ahmed Elbiali (12-0) drops Fabiano Pena (12-3-1) early in the first round. Pena seemed to be able to get back to his feet but the referee didn’t give him the chance. The right to the jaw is what stopped the fight in one minute and 15 seconds. This is another first round KO for Elbiali, who continues to improve and show a bit of defense in the fight. However, when you consistently knock people out you don’t get to show off much of your game. So now we will have to see who the light heavyweight is matched up with next. For Pena, we are sure he is disappointed that the fight was not allowed to go a tad bit longer. Maybe it was a good thing that it didn’t.

You never want to see a fight end due to headbutts but that is exactly what we got in tonight's fight between Jorge Lara (27-0-2) and Jesus Rojas (21-1-2). The fight was stopped by doctor stoppage after he deemed Lara was unable to see due to a cut over his right eye. Lara received two cuts each due to accidental headbutts. The first cut is the one that was in question, as it continued to bleed as the fight went on. All three judges scored the fight as a technical draw. Lara landed more and had a better percentage, but it was clear that Rojas was starting to gain momentum going into the latter rounds. Primarily due to the wild swings early from Lara who also found a lot of success with his uppercuts. Rojas never faltered and stayed in the face of Lara the entire fight and that was one of the reasons the headbutts started to happen. It wasn't until after the fourth round when Rojas started to land some quality shots, which really makes it unfortunate we couldn't see more of this fight. Unfortunately, we will have to wait and see if these two do it again real soon.
