One of the most highly-spirited players in the league will be sidelined for an extended period of time.

The Miami Heat center Meyers Leonard successfully a shoulder surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the season, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported.

Leonard has been a great leader for Miami's locker room. Despite seeing limited minutes in the playoffs, the Illinois product earned the people's respect with his antics from the sidelines.

During the 2020 offseason, the Heat re-signed Leonard to a $9.4 million salary, with a $10,152,000 team option for next season.

The 28-year-old appeared in three games this season, averaging 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.7 minutes per contest.

Bam Adebayo, Kelly Olynyk, and rookie Precious Achiuwa are expected to play big minutes for the Heat this season.
