It’s official Notre Dame and Showtime have agreed to a deal for a show this season. Earlier today FootballScoop said that the two were in serious talks for a deal but the news just broke. The show will profile the Football team, trying to get back to the title game for the first time since 2012.  The show will be a Hard Knocks style show, following the Irish as they adjust to a new QB in Malik Zaire, who started the Music City Bowl. The show will be called “A Season With Notre Dame Football”.  Showtime announced it via tweet saying, “A Season With Notre Dame Football premiers 9/8, chronicling a full season with the @FightingIrish @ASeasonWith #TCA15”

According to AL.com, Stephen Espinoza the general manager of Showtime Sports said, “We're honored and thrilled to be granted access to profile a college football program with a legacy as storied and as fascinating as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the passion of the players and head coach Brian Kelly will make for a compelling television series that will appeal beyond hardcore college football fans to all viewers who appreciate great storytelling." The first episode will air after Notre Dame’s season opener against the Longhorns of Texas. Previously ND and Showtime collaborated on a similar show with the Men’s Basketball team. The show will premier about 10 pm after “Inside the NFL” on that Tuesday.

The show will have 15 half an hour episodes, as previously stated beginning on September 8th. According to Deadline.com, “Each half-hour episode will follow the preparation for the previous Saturday’s game, showcasing the intensity of the sidelines on game day and how the Golden Domers balance football with classwork. Later segments will document the preparations to play host to USC for the 86th edition of their fierce annual rivalry game and the Shamrock Series showdown with Boston College at historic Fenway Park." It is unclear if the show will continue through the bowl game should there be one.

Both Showtime and Notre Dame as well as Notre Dame’s sponsors will benefit from this show. The national exposure that Notre Dame will gain, as a result will help the program and more so the players and the coaches. Especially when players step up that could help their draft stock, for teams to see what they are like off the field, because they could obviously see the games on NBC. Notre Dame’s uniform maker, Under Armor is also certain to gain exposure and be happy with this series.

It will be interesting for Notre Dame fans to see inside the historic ND football program, in a season that they hope will turn into a playoff appearance. It will similarly be interesting to see how Brian Kelly and Brian VanGorder and the rest of the coaches coach, with the team playing well and possibly not playing so well. Notre Dame’s twitter and Brian Kelly have not said anything about the series, as the Irish have been practicing at Culver Academy all day.
