Chris Petersen brought his Washington Huskies into the LA Coliseum to face off against former Washington coach Steve Sarkisian and the #17 USC Trojans. In the Petersen-era, this is arguably the biggest win for the Huskies.

Washington came in as 21-point underdogs, but they controlled the game from the very beginning.

USC quarterback Cody Kessler was sloppy with the ball early on throwing two interceptions in the first quarter to give Washington great field position multiple times, but the Huskies couldn't capitalize. Washington kicker Cameron Van Winkle missed a chip shot field goal early on.

The Trojans got on the scoreboard first in this one by way of a 34-yard field goal by Alex Wood, giving the Trojans a 3-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

Washington then came back with a good drive in the second quarter, but it stalled and Van Winkle this time capitalized with a 21-yard field goal to tie things up at 3-3 with 9:54 left in the second.

USC was driving towards the end of the half, but had to settle for a field goal as they took a 6-3 lead into halftime.

Washington had a lot of chances in the first half to crack the scoreboard, but couldn't quite get it done. They kept themselves in the ballgame, however, and kept the pressure on USC playing at home.

After a fumble by Juju Smith-Schuster during USC's first drive of the second half, Washington took over on the USC 27 and finally capitalized.

Washington used a little bit of trickery as receiver Marvin Hall Jr. caught a backwards pass from quarterback Jake Browning who then threw it to a wide open Joshua Perkins in the endzone for the Huskies to put them up 10-6 with 11:24 left in the third quarter.

It stayed 10-6 until the Huskies put together a nice drive started by a nice punt return by Dante Pettis. Browning drove the Huskies all the way down to the goal line before Myles Gaskin punched it in from one yard out to put UW up 17-6. The boos were raining down from the Coliseum crowd.

USC wasn't going away as they immediately put together a six play, 69 yard drive in 2:19 for a touchdown as Ronald Jones II punched it in from a yard away. The Trojans went for two, but the conversion failed and the score stayed at 17-12.

Washington's defense stepped up down the stretch as USC missed a 46-yard field goal with 3:44 left and the Huskies were able to run the clock out from there to preserve a big upset win in Los Angeles.

Myles Gaskin was the work horse for the Huskies as he ran the ball 22 times for 134 yards and a touchdown. Jake Browning made some clutch plays when Washington needed it most going 16/32 for 137 yards.

As for USC, Tre Madden ran 17 times for 120 yards while Cody Kessler was 16/29 for 156 yards and two interceptions.

The Washington defense stepped up big time, forcing three turnovers and only allowing USC to convert one third down out of 13 attempts.

This was a massive win for the Washington program as they will try to carry this momentum into next week's huge matchup with Oregon at Husky Stadium.

As for USC, their disappointing season continues as they have lost back-to-back home games for the first time since 2001. They hit the road next weekend and will travel to face Notre Dame.
