The Kansas City Chiefs have released their all-time leader in catches by a wide receiver. The team announced on Thursday that they were releasing Dwayne Bowe. The move was expected by many after the Chiefs announced on Tuesday that they were signing free-agent receiver Jeremy Maclin.

The Chiefs originally drafted Bowe with the 23rd pick in the NFL Draft out of LSU. Bowe made the Pro Bowl in 2010, the same season in which he caught a league leading 15 touchdowns. In 2014, Bowe saw his production dwindle and finished the season without a touchdown reception.

Bowe carried a high salary cap number of $14 million for 2015. Bowe's release saves the team $5 million against their 2015 salary cap. The Chiefs freed up enough money to accommodate newly acquired guard Ben Grubbs, who they received in a trade from the New Orleans Saints.

Coach Andy Reid had nothing but positive things to say about Bowe.

"It's been a pleasure working with Dwayne the past two seasons. He showed up every day with a great attitude and did everything we asked of him. He was a productive player for a number of years here, and I have a lot of respect for what he was able to accomplish."

Bowe, 30, will not be out of work long. Expect teams like the New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders to take serious looks at Bowe.
