Depth at the wide receiver position is a new found luxury for the Detroit Lions.  In recent years the team has had little to no production outside of Calvin Johnson. In 2014, Golden Tate was signed and emerged as a legit number two option and even filled in adequately in Johnson's absence during a three game stretch.
Heading into mini-camp, we breakdown the Lions wide receiver position. Who is on the cusp? Who will be a surprise?

#1. Calvin Johnson - Not much of an introduction is needed when mentioning Megatron.  The only questions are his health and his age. Johnson will turn 30 at the beginning of the season and had a nagging ankle injury. Many wondering if the beating he has taken in his previous eight seasons will catch up to him.

#2. Golden Tate - For years the WR depth for the Lions was non-existent. There was Calvin Johnson and a huge drop off. Golden Tate stepped in and immediately filled that void. In 2014 Tate had 99 receptions, 1,331 yards receiving, and four touchdowns. Tate gives the Lions versatility as he can line up anywhere and create mismatches.

#3. Lance Moore - In 2014 the Lions filled their number three spot by committee. Corey Fuller was the most consistent while Jeremy Ross also contributed, and Ryan Broyles barely saw any snaps. But regardless of who the that man was, there was a staggering lack of production. Moore is not only familiar with this offense, but thrived from it in the past. Through OTA's Moore looks like he is the man for the job.

#4 Corey Fuller - Fuller is still in the developmental process, but continues to progress. After being absent from the stat sheet his rookie year, Fuller was a contributor in 2014. Fuller started two games when Calvin Johnson was banged up. He finished the season with 14 receptions, 212 yards receiving, and a touchdown. If Fuller keeps up the same progression, he is valuable in that he is a tall, fast, deep threat who can fill in for Megatron on occasion. Although this coaching staff did not draft him, they appear to be committed to him.

#5 T.J. Jones - The fifth receiver will be the biggest battle in camp. Fan favorite Ryan Broyles has come to a crossroads. Still, T.J. Jones is more of a viable option at the number five spot than anyone else currently on the roster. Jones has the largest hands of all receivers on the team. He has impressed coaches and players alike during minicamp.

Practice Squad possibilities :

Jarred Haggins - In the end the nod may go to Peacock, but Haggins has shown exceptional athleticism during minicamp. His college numbers weren't very good as he switched to wide receiver after being a quarterback in high school.

Andrew Peacock - Peacock was on the practice squad last season after coming in as an undrafted free agent rookie. His familiarity with the offense and work ethic make him the favorite to join the practice squad.

Cut:

Ryan Broyles - Broyles has had all of the chances, but injuries and attitude have caught up with him. Of the remaining receivers, he has the best chance of making it, but that is only as a replacement to an injured player.

Greg Salas -  Salas dropped several passes in minicamp. He hasn't looked sharp. It would be a miracle for him to make the final 53-man roster.

Jeremy Ross - Most Lions fans are saying "It's about time". And it is. Ross was incredibly ineffective last season and even became a liability toward the end of the season. He had the most fair catches in the league last season, and more than any whole team since 2007.
