Sometimes a result happens that you simply don't expect. One of those happened on Sunday when Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went into the Big Easy and then were able to upset Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints by a final of 26-19. One major reason for that success was because of the defense of the Buccaneers. A key contributor on that defense on Sunday was Jacquies Smith, and that's why our writers voted him to be the VAVEL USA Defensive Player of Week Two.

When you are able to get three sacks and two forced fumbles to slow down a Sean Payton offense, clearly you are doing something right. That is exactly what Smith did on Sunday to lead the Lovie Smith defense. One question is whether or not this is going to be something that Smith can do in the future. He has not had a heralded NFL career at this point, as he was undrafted into the NFL after a strong college career with the Missouri Tigers. He has been on various NFL teams including the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and Buffalo Bills, before finally settling down with the Buccaneers this past 2014 season. In his eight starts of the 2014 season, he wound up with six and a half sacks, so it's pretty clear to say that Sunday's game against the Saints might be the best game that Jacquies Smith has played in his career at this point.

Smith and the Buccaneers defense will be seeking their second win of the season this coming week as they will play against the Houston Texans and they will be looking to get sacks and interceptions off of Ryan Mallett. Meanwhile the Texans will still be trying to get their first victory of the 2015 season.
