CHESTER, PA- On Friday morning, Philadelphia Union forward C.J. Sapong was arrested and charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence as announced by the team. Per the team, he will not be able to participate in competition until the Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health doctors have completed the assessment.
“We were alerted to the situation this morning and have been in contact with the league office, law enforcement and C.J.’s family,” technical director Chris Albright said. “Moving forward, we will continue to work together with the League in following the appropriate procedures. We will have further comment once more information is available.”
According to reports, Sapong was arraigned at 8:44 pm Friday May 1, in Philadelphia County, PA and was released on recognizance. A status hearing is scheduled for May 11th. It was also reported that this is his first offence.
