Canada is off to its first World Cup in 36 years after dominating Jamaica for 90 minutes in front of a raucous crowd in Toronto at BMO Field.

  • Canada off to a great start

Canada got off to an aggressive start and in the 3rd minute it was Cyle Larin with a great scoring opportunity but Andre Blake the Jamaican goalkeeper made the save.

Three minutes later it was Junior Hoilett for Canada testing Blake but the ball went right into his hands. Canada opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a great feed from Stephen Eustaquio and put it past Blake into the back of the net.

Milan Borjan made his first big save of the game in the 32nd minute as Jamaica was looking to equalize when Atapharoy Bygrave powered a shot but a great sliding save by the keeper kept the ball out.

Tajon Buchanan doubled Canada's lead late in the first half when he was able to get the ball in the box and beat Blake with a quick shot to make it 2-0 and BMO Field exploded once again.

  • Canada finishes strong

Canada didn't take their foot off the gas and a couple of minutes in Jonathan David had a great chance to make it 3-0 but the shot went just wide.

It looked like Canada was doing a good job applying great pressure and pressing Jamaica as they looked hemmed in their own zone. John Herdman made three changes in the 62nd minute bringing in Atiba HutchinsonAlistair Johnston, and Lucas Cavallini.

Liam Fraser made a substitute appearance in the 71st minute as Herdman was looking for some fresh legs to the midfield. Kamal Miller came in six minutes later for Jonathan Osorio.

Cavallini got his first shot on goal in the 78th minute as he got a great shot off but again right into the chest of Blake.  Canada made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute as Junior Hoilet with a great shot into the corner of the net.

Sam Adekugbe made it 4-0 in the 89th minute as his shot was deflected off Adrian Mariappa for the own goal and Canada's fate was sealed.

The final whistle blew and Canada had booked their spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
