NYCFC continued their incredible form as the Boys In Blue defeated DC United 2-0 at Audi Field.

Alexander Callens gave the defending MLS champions the lead five minutes into the match and Valentin Castellanos doubled the advantage from the penalty spot just before halftime.

The Boys In Blue have now kept a clean sheet in four consecutive matches, which is a club record.

Story of the match

With the match beginning at a high tempo, it was DC United who came closest to opening the scoring as Brad Smith hit the post after just two minutes.

In the fifth minute, NYCFC went in front. Chris Gloster sent in a lovely cross that Callens was on hand to head past Black and Red goalkeeper Rafael Romo.

The hosts again had the post to thank for denying them a goal, Sofiane Djeffal's effort from the edge of the area clipping the left post and bouncing away.

On the half-hour mark, a corner kick was sent in to Castellanos, but his header drifted wide of the post.

Romo was called into action six minutes later, tipping over a fizzing drive from distance by midfielder Keaton Parks.

The Boys In Blue doubled their advantage on the stroke of halftime. A corner kick was reviewed for a handball by Brendan Hines-Ike and referee Chris Penso decided to give it, Castellanos beat Romo with a Panenka finish.

In the second half, Callens saw a corner break deep to Nicolas Acevedo, who curled the ball back to the Frenchman, his header straight into the hands of Romo.

In the 76th minute, the Black and Red had an opportunity, a corner by Julian Gressel met at the back post by Steve Birnbaum, whose header was met by a fine reaction save from Sean Johnson.

Five minutes later, the hosts nearly capitalized on a turnover at the halfway line, but Taxiarchas Fountas could only drag his shot wide.

There were no more chances from either side as NYCFC moved up to second in the Eastern Conference while DC United saw their winless run stretched to three matches.

Man of the match: Keaton Parks

His return to the lineup from injury a few games ago is proving to make an already loaded NYCFC side even more dangerous. He had the best chances from the run of play and was unlucky not to have scored.
