On Monday, New York City FC and Slovakian striker Adam Nemec mutually agreed to part ways. Nemec was signed last offseason as one of the first players on City's roster, and was projected to start alongside David Villa at the tip of the NYCFC attack.

However, he made only nine appearances for City, and was unable to score a goal in his time at Yankee Stadium. He hasn't made an appearance for the first team since July 4th, when he came on as a substitute against the Montreal Impact.

First and foremost, we’d like to thank Adam for his hard work and contributions to New York City FC,” manager Jason Kreis said. “We believe this move is best for both Club and player. We all wish him well for the future."

This seems to be a wise move for both player and club. According to a report from Empire of Soccer, Nemec is going to sign with Willem II of the Dutch Eredivisie, and NYCFC will open up the $300,000 in cap space that the striker was eating up. His time in the Big Apple was largely ineffectual, and the sight of him blasting a strike into row Z was an unfortunately common one for the Third Rail this season.

His early struggles cost him his place in the starting line-up, and Patrick Mullins has seamlessly slotted in alongside Villa. Give the various big name signings City are attempting to fit into their lineup, there is no longer room for Nemec. It seems the only bad bit of business for City in this situation is that they waited until after the MLS transfer window closed to free up that cap space. Given the defensive struggles City have dealt with, signing another defender would undoubtedly have been helpful.

City are back in action on Saturday, September 12th against FC Dallas.
