Cesc Fabregas has today completed a reported £27million move to Stamford Bridge after the Spaniard claims Arsenal "chose not to sign him"

The news broke and within minutes was circling around social media sites as Arsenal fans reacted to the news that their beloved Cesc Fabregas would not be returning to the club, instead joining fellow Premier League outfit, Chelsea.

This report will be looking at some of the potential reasons as to why Arsene Wenger turned down the chance to re-sign the coveted Spaniard.

Packed out midfield:

Arsenal are known for their beautiful passing game and although Fabregas would be a fantastic addition to the club's midfield, it's hard to see where he would fit in. Back in January, Arsenal added Mesut Ozil to the club's growing squad, a signing that would smash the club's record transfer fee paid for a player. Along with Ozil, Arsenal also have the ever-improving Aaron Ramsey, playmaker Santi Cazorla, the experienced Mikel Arteta and young English talents Jack Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain, who can arguably all play the same position and role of Cesc Fabregas, without forgetting the flexible Tomas Rosicky and other squad players like Mathieu Flamini and Abou Diaby.

This fuels the question, does Wenger already have too many central midfielders at the club and would it have caused more upheaval than good to sign Fabregas?

It's no secret that Cesc Fabregas is a multi-talented footballer, but Arsenal are now a squad with a number of players who play a central position in the club's midfield. Although Fabregas has played in a false-nine position many times whilst at Barcelona, many struggle to see him being played in that role at Arsenal, especially under Wenger.

The reality is that if Arsene Wenger was to sign Fabregas, one or two key players would miss out on regular first team experience and Arsenal could lose more players as a result of this than what they would gain.

Other areas to strengthen:

Arsenal haven't struggled this season when it comes to chance creation and goals coming from their midfield, with many fans calling for the club to invest in a new right-back to cover the departing Bacary Sagna, a new number two in goal to cover the already departured Lukasz Fabianski and a costless-scoring striker to take the burden off Olivier Giroud's shoulders. Arsenal simply need to strengthen in other more key areas rather than their midfield.

With Bacary Sagna already confirming he looks set to leave the club, after turning down a contract renewal with Arsenal, Wenger is currently having to focus his attentions elsewhere looking for his replacement and working on other more necessary signings.

Could this be Arsene's reason behind turning down the chance to re-sign Fabregas?

Spending wisely:

Chelsea have splashed out £27million on the Spaniard but have good reason to. With Frank Lampard finally ending his glittering career with his beloved Blues, Chelsea simply need a like-for-like replacement in the centre of their midfield, and as mentioned before, Arsenal simply don't.

Arsenal are reportedly in advanced talks with Zenit's Brazilian winger/striker Hulk, a player who plays in an area where Arsenal need reinforcements. For many years Arsenal fans have called for a big name, big money striker to lead the line in search for goals and with Hulk, they may have found their man.

It is also reported that Arsenal will need to spend somewhere near the region of the same fee Chelsea have forked out to secure Fabregas, in order to pry Hulk away from the oil-rich Russian club.

As well as this, let us not forget that Arsenal came very close to signing German progidy Julian Draxler in the summer transfer window and Wenger could reignite his interest in the German, with Arsenal not short of money to spend this season.

Finally, it has been recently reported that Arsene Wenger will use his time appearing as a match-pundit for French TV during the World Cup as something of a scouting mission, with strikers Mario Mandzukic, Karim Benzema and Mario Balotelli top of his list.
