Simon Mignolet

A relatively good day for the Belgian. He made a couple of fine saves in the first half. Concerns about his ball distribution just won't go away as he kept kicking balls out of play or to opponents. However he fared better commanding his penalty box as he was aggressive in coming for corner kicks.  6/10

Javier Manquillo

Was solid defensively and hardly allowed Chris Brunt any chance at delivering his usually devastating crosses. His passing and crossing in the attacking third was occasionally poor. His poor pass set up the Albion attack that led to the penalty. He helped set up the winning goal by beautifully steering Gerrard's long range pass into the path of Sterling. 6/10

Alberto Moreno

Was decent going forward even though he was undone on a few occasions by poor passing or over elaboration.  Defended well in large parts of the game. However the fact that Gamboa, the Albion right back was in contention for man of the match for his team and Brunt switched wings in the second half showed how his questionable positioning gave West Brom some joy. 5/10

Martin Skrtel

A good display aside a reckless and needless tackle on Berahino that deservedly earned him a yellow card. 6/10

Dejan Lovren

Was aggressive and committed in his defending, a style that served him well and let him down in equal measure. A case in point was the rash tackle on Berahino that led to the penalty. Not his best of performances in a Red shirt. 5/10

Steven Gerrard

A good display by the captain. He influenced the game with his passing and creation of chances. He was pretty solid in the early part of the first half in terms of helping out his central defenders. His influence on the game grew when he was shifted further up the pitch. 7/10

Jordan Henderson

A classy assist, brilliant goal and passionate and determined all round play. A real show from the vice-captain. 8/10

Phillipe Coutinho

Not a typical eye catching display by the Brazilian but an effective one. Lost possession a few times in the first half but overall he was good linking up with Henderson, Sterling and Lallana. 5/10

Adam Lallana

Difficult to find fault with a virtuoso performance like that. Good feet and movement with lots of creativity. He worked hard as well as he tracked back on a fair few occasion to cover Moreno. 8/10

Raheem Sterling

His runs at defenders were on display. So was the hard work. Just like the Basel match his ball control and passing deserted him on a number of occasions. Showed strength and quick thinking to set up the winner. 6/10

Rickie Lambert

Started the game brightly. Forced Foster into a good save after pouncing on a Skrtel pass. Fizzled out of the game until he was substituted. 4/10

Substitutes:

Mario Balotelli

Held up play well and was involved in one or two neat combinations with Gerrard as well as Lallana and Sterling, two of which forced saves from Foster. 6/10

Glen Johnson

A decent performance after his injury lay off. 6/10

Lucas Leiva

Brought in to help solidify the midfield and secure the points. He succeeded in helping the team accomplish that but was lousy and ponderous in possession at times, plus he was wasteful with his shooting. 5/10
