Many Chelsea players were impressive this weekend while playing for their national teams at both the senior and the junior levels, although some did not play or were not called up.

Europe

Chelsea's new star signing Pedro Rodriguez played the entire 90 minutes on Saturday against an unbeaten Slovakia side in the Euro 2016 qualifiers. Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas also started, but both were substituted off in the second half. Meanwhile, Cesar Azpilicueta was an unused sub.

However, the three Blues that did play helped lead Spain to a 2-0 victory, the two goals scored by Jordi Alba and Andres Iniesta of FC Barcelona, which saw Spain move ahead of Slovakia in Group C due to superior goal difference. Another win against Macedonia on Tuesday would all but guarantee Spain's qualification for next summer's Euros.

Serbian players Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic also helped lead their team to victory on Saturday, but unlike Spain, Serbia is sitting at fourth in their group and will be unable to bridge the 10-point gap in order to secure qualification for next summer.

Also in Group I, Denmark drew Albania in a goalless match on Friday, in which Andreas Christensen was an unused substitute. That same night, Kurt Zouma sat the bench during France's friendly with Portugal.

Gary Cahill was also an unused sub during England's 6-0 victory over San Marino, securing England qualification for Euro 2016. Roy Hodgson wanted to experiment with his side against San Marino, but Cahill should be back to action on Tuesday against Switzerland.

In European Under-21 Championship finals qualifying, Nathan Ake played for most of Holland's 4-0 win in Cyprus, and Charly Musonda helped Belgium Under-21s keep up their momentum as they won 2-0 against Latvia.

In a friendly against Germany Under-19s, Dominic Solanke scored England Under-19s' second goal in a 3-2 win away while England were down to 10 men after he had already had a hand in creating the opener. In addition, Jake Clarke-Salter played the entire game as a centre-back.

Brazil and Ghana

Outside of Europe, Willian played 78 minutes of Brazil's friendly against Costa Rica in New Jersey. The 27-year-old winger had a second half chance at goal, but in the end, the only goal of the match was scored by Zenit St. Petersburg's Hulk 10 minutes in.

In African Cup of Nations qualifying, Abdul Rahman Baba and Christian Atsu both started for Ghana in their 1-0 win over Rwanda, with the latter subbed out in added time.

Bertrand Traore did not have a hand in Burkina Faso's 1-0 defeat to Botswana.
