Leicester City lost ground on top spot as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Bournemouth.

The hosts thought that luck was on their side when Simon Francis was sent off in the second half, but they couldn't capatilise.

The Leicester team had chances which they couldn't finish off, and in-form midfielder Riyad Mahrez missed a penalty.

Ranieri celebrates 40 point mark

Even though everyone was talking about how Leicester haven't won in three, manager Claudio Ranieri was in fine form as his team reached the magic 40-point mark.

The Leicester boss has reiterated the importance of his side getting to this mark, and said after the game that his team achieving 40-points was 'fantastic'.

The Italian showed his true colours though when he said that 'for the players it's champagne' and then said he was 'buying the pizza'.

This refers back to earlier in the season when Ranieri treated his players to pizza after their first clean sheet this campaign.

Mahrez penalty miss haults Foxes

The talking point though will not be how Leicester reached 40 points, it will be the fact that Mahrez could of sent the Foxes joint top of the Premier League.

Early in the second half Francis was sent off for the visitors, and Mahrez stepped up for the resulting penalty. He then unfortunately went on to miss the penalty kick, meaning Leicester would have to score from open play.

The Algerian midfielder has been one of the main men for Leicester this season, whether it has been scoring goals or creating them. But I'm sure the rest of the team can find some way to forgive him.

Leicester running out of steam

The question that is now being asked is have the Foxes got what it takes to last the rest of the season?

It has been a whirlwind season so far for Leicester, and if you had told them that they would be second in the table at the start of 2016, I'm sure all of the players would have snapped your hand off for it.

The task now is whether the squad can now kick on until the end of the season. Bournemouth is the sort of game you would expect Leicester to win, so hopefully the Foxes can get back to winning.
