Tessel Middag makes Manchester City move

Manchester City wasted no time in signing up Tessel Middag as soon as the window opened.

A player with plenty of potential

The 23-year-old finally made the move to the new-look Manchester club after having turned down their initial offer two years ago, favouring to stay in Holland and complete university. With both the Eredivisie season and her degree all wrapped up, Middag opted to move away from the familiar and set herself a new test with City in WSL 1.

Middag comes to Manchester with an appetite for success, after lifting both the league and cup trophies in her debut season with ADO Den Haag before moving to Ajax to balance football with her history studies at the University of Amsterdam. Whether in the re-formed Eredivisie or the now defunct BeNe league, Ajax have consistently challenge for silverware, Middag ever-present in midfield for de Godendochters, only missing out on the title last season by goal difference.

Still young, Middag has already started to amass caps for the Netherlands, featuring in most of their games at the 2015 World Cup and her drive for success with the Oranje will certainly push herself to be the best she can be at City, offering another option in an already talented midfield. It goes without saying that her experience in Europe will be a big boost for City in their maiden season in the UWCL as well as much needed depth in a perilously thin squad for the second half of this season.

Middag describes her feelings about the move

When speaking about the move Middag spoke of her desire to "improve" as a player, citing the level of "competition" in WSL as the league attracts more players from across the continent. The Dutch international spoke of "ambitions", keen to fight for a spot in the Dutch side especially with the Netherlands hosting the Euros next year, the move to the current league leaders was a no-brainer, saying herself and the club "are a good match".
