Victor Wanyama has expressed his delight at how he has settled in at Tottenham Hotspur, commenting that his teammates have been extremely helpful.

Wanyama has started the Lilywhite’s two Premier League games in the place of the suspended Moussa Dembele, and is likely to continue doing so until the Belgian comes back. The Kenyan topped off his home debut, against Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace, by scoring the winning goal, in their 1-0 win.

Welcomed with open arms

Speaking after Tottenham’s win to Palace the midfielder commented that he’s already feeling comfortable at the North London club. He explained that his teammates “have been great to me” which has made him feel as if he’s “been here for a very long time”, adding that “everyone has been very happy to help” which has made everything easier.  The midfielder, who played under Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton, has said that joining up with his old boss has also made the process smoother. Wanyama believes that the fact that he knows “how he [Pochettino] works and what he wants” has “made it easy”. He also commented that Pochettino “underlines what he wants in games” which has made playing under the Argentine easier.

Thankful that he has been given an early chance

With Moussa Dembele having been suspended for the first four games of the season, Wanyama has slotted in alongside Eric Dier as part of the double pivot in front of their defence. He commented that he is “happy to have been given a chance” as that is what “we are training for every day”.

The midfielder has also expressed his delight at the team’s win over Crystal Palace. He commented that “it is important to get a good result” in the first home game. Wanyama netted the winning goal which, he was pleased “to do [it] in front of our fans”
