It isn't the news that David Moyes was hoping to hear today as the transfer window comes to its end. The Sunderland manager is desperately looking to add to his squad, but the Black Cats are now expected to miss out on two transfer targets.
Both Vicente Iborra and Ryan Mason were targets for Sunderland but for different reasons they are now not expected to sign either player, leaving Moyes to frantically search in the final hours of the window.
Vicente Iborra
Sunderland were firm favourites to sign Vicente Iborra after an initial £7m bid but Sevilla have now had a change of heart late on in the negotiations and put a stop to the move.
Iborra is settled and happy in Spain and with the club always being indifferent towards the transfer, Sunderland were hopeful that the fee would alter their minds, however, Iborra isn't interested in moving his family as his entire career has been spent in his homeland so far.
With the Spanish outfit already letting go of several players this summer the club was under pressure to not let more players leave and they failed to find a replacement since accepting the initial bid last week. As Sunderland now have more money due to the new TV deals the club could possibly offer more money to both the club and the player in a last ditch effort to convince them, but that remains to be seen.
Ryan Mason
Unlike the Iborra deal, this is one that will not change no matter how much money Sunderland offer as the former Spurs man has now signed for Hull City, choosing them over Sunderland. Mason admitted there was interest from the Wearside club but decided to go for the newly promoted side instead.
David Moyes must now look elsewhere to bolster his side before the window shuts tonight.
