Sunderland were one of the clubs expected to be busiest on Deadline Day but the club failed to land a large number of their transfer targets before the window closed.
The Black Cats broke their transfer record and brought in a much-needed central defender but the final day of the window will be remembered as a failed one.
New additions
Sunderland struck early in the day to finalise the signature of Lorient midfielder Didier N'Dong for a club record fee, which stands at £13.6m. The Gabonese international is said to be delighted with his move to the Premier League and is looking forward to getting going at his new club.
David Moyes also brought in Manchester City defender Jason Denayer. The 21-year-old was unlikely to feature for Pep Guardiola's side in this campaign, meaning it is best that he was sent elsewhere.
The two new acqusitions mean Sunderland have brought in eight new players under Moyes. However, fans feel this isn't enough.
Missing out
There was a total of five players that were linked with a move to Wearside on the final day of the transfer window, however none of them ended up at the Stadium of Light.
Norwich City duo Steven Naismith and John Ruddy were both linked with a move to the top flight outfit, however neither ended up leaving Carrow Road before the deadline. Leonardo Ulloa was briefly linked with Sunderland but he also didn't even set off for a medical.
Mika Domingues was nearly brought in at the very last minute but Sunderland and Boavista couldn't get the deal done in time.
The final player was fan-favourite Yann M'Vila.
M'Vila disappointment
M'Vila has been linked with a return to Sunderland all summer and the player was in England to finalise a £7m move yesterday. As the deadline grew closer, the M'Vila confirmation was still nowhere to be seen and fans were growing anxious.
M'Vila then posted on his instagram account saying that Sunderland "hadn't picked up the phone" and that he was "heartbroken".
The French midfielder's contract runs out in January, so Sunderland may just be waiting to sign him on a free transfer.
