Carlo Ancelotti could be one step closer to getting one of his summer targets as Everton have made a £22m bid for Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

The Toffees have it clear that they’ll be looking to strengthen at the back this summer. But the club have reportedly told the Catalan side they’ll withdraw their offer for the 20-year-old if they don’t get an answer in the coming days.

Todibo signed for Barcelona in 2019 and has spent the second half of this season in the Bundesliga with Schalke. The other clubs said interested in the defender are Serie A sides Juventus and Inter Milan.

Toffees looking to bolster defence this summer

Everton were chasing the defender back in January, but Todibo decided to head to Germany on loan for the rest of the season. The France Under-20 international has made eight appearances for Schalke, who have an option to buy him after his loan.

Only five teams have conceded more goals than Ancelotti’s side this season, 46 goals, and the Merseyside club will be looking to tighten up at the back with signings in the upcoming transfer window.

Todibo isn’t short of confidence either and despite Schalke currently struggling in the Bundesliga, drawing two and losing four games after the restart, the defender has been a stand-out player.

Barcelona’s financial situation has been affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic ad they will have to sell players in order to bring in targets this summer.
