Lewis Macleod has been an ever-present for the Pilgrims since joining this summer from Wigan Athletic.

Macleod is hoping to rebuild his career down at Home Park after disastrous spells in the Championship with Brentford and Wigan where the Scotsman struggled with repetitive hamstring injuries – something that the Green Army hope he has seen the last of.

The central midfielder replaced loanee Tyreeq Bakinson who returned to his parent club Bristol City after the season was curtailed.

The Rangers youth product believes his side will be up there by the end of the season after Argyle collected four points from their first two league fixtures against Blackpool and AFC Wimbledon.

Macleod spoke to Lanarkshire Live Sport about his time so far at Argyle.

“For me, it is just good to be back playing again.

“It is a great atmosphere to be a part of. I could tell when I came in that they really had belief, and the manager certainly has the belief to go and do something this season.

“The squad is good, and the coaching staff is brilliant, so for me it has been a perfect fit so far.

“The manager has really given me my chance at the start of the season and hopefully that can continue.”

Love for Lowe

Macleod devotes his early success in an Argyle shirt down to the faith shown to him by manager Ryan Lowe.

“It has been massive that he has had a bit of faith in me, that is what you want as a player. You want them to stick by you and play you. I want to repay that trust that he has given me.”

When asked how he felt his freshly promoted side would cope this season he had this to say:

“We have got off to a pretty good start. We have got a good win in the cup [against Championship side Queens Park Rangers] and started the league well, but we had a wee dip in the second round of the cup.

“We have started with a win and a draw which I think most people would have taken.

  • Promotion Push

“The belief is there in the squad that we can go and have a good season.

“There is a few good teams in the league this season and there is no doubt that it is going to be tight, but we want to finish as high as possible.

“The aim of everyone is to push for promotion, and it certainly will not be through a lack of effort if we do not make that.”
