Arsene Wenger has reportedly spoken to French wonderkid Kylian Mbappé about a potential move to Arsenal this summer.

According to L’Equipe, Wenger spoke one-on-one with the 18-year-old attacker over the phone where the two talked about a move to the Emirates Stadium, as well as Wenger giving his two cents on how Mbappé should manage his career in the future.

A stepping stone

Arsenal have surprisingly been reported as the forerunners for the signature of Mbappé, who set the footballing world alight this season by breaking into the Monaco first team and guiding the Ligue 1 side to their first French league title for the first time in 17 years.

It was reported last week that Mbappé would be open to a move to North London if he was allowed to treat the club as a stepping stone for his career, and the striker’s idol is Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who also came through the Monaco youth academy.

A world record fee

However, Monaco would only allow Mbappé to leave the French champions for a record transfer fee. Multiple reports have indicated that Monaco will accept an offer of £110 million to £140 million for the striker, and the chairman of Monaco confirmed in May that the club had rejected an offer of £103 million from Real Madrid for their prodigy player.

Mbappé scored 15 league goals and assisted a further 11 in Ligue 1, and the striker became the youngest goal scorer in the knockout stages of the Champions League, scoring against Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus in the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals of the tournament.

Summer signings

Arsenal have only made one signing in the summer transfer window this season, bringing in Schalke left back Sead Kolašinac on a free transfer on a long-term contract.
