Everton have completed the signing of Switzerland Under-21 international Shani Tarashaj from Grasshoppers Zurich for an undisclosed fee - believed to be around £3million.

The 20-year-old has joined on a four-and-a-half-year deal, but he will immediately be loaned back to the Swiss side until the end of the season in order to complete his national service.

He becomes the club's second signing of the transfer window following Matty Fould's £225,000 switch from Bury earlier this month.

Who is Shani Tarashaj?

Everton possess some of the Premier League's most sought-after youngsters and Roberto Martinez has now signed another of Europe's finest young talents.

Tarashaj is regarded as one of Switzerland's most talented and emerging attacking talents, scoring eight times in 18 appearances for Grasshoppers this season.

He came through the youth ranks at the club and made his league debut in August 2014, but it is his form this season that has caught the eye of a number of clubs in Europe, including Serie A sides Juventus and Inter Milan.

Everton's new man has also made six appearances for Switzerland's Under-21 side, scoring five goals, and he is seen by many in Switzerland as being the next Xherdan Shaqiri and becoming the next big star of Swiss football.

'An enormous young talent'

Roberto Martinez told the club website that he was "delighted" that Tarashaj had joined Everton and added that the Switzerland under-21 international is an "enormous young talent" who has a "great future" ahead of him.

The Everton boss added that he was pleased that Everton "acted quickly" to secure the deal as he believes that he will fit in "really well" with Everton's "talented, young squad" and style of play when he joins up with the first-team in the summer.

"He is a family boy, hungry and desperate to fight for his place in our talented young squad." - Roberto Martinez

Martinez also praised the professionalism of Grasshoppers, who helped ensure the deal was conducted in an "exemplary way".

Everton's reputation a key factor in move

Tarashaj told the club website that it was a "dream" to sign for a "big club" like Everton and added that Martinez's reputation for developing young players was a major factor in his move to Merseyside.

Not only do Everton possess some of the Premier League's most-sought after young talent, but Martinez has also given youngsters Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning a chance in the first-team this season.

Despite other European clubs being interested in signing him, Tarashaj said that a key factor in his move to Everton was Martinez's "belief" in young players and he is looking forward to working with the former Wigan Athletic manager and becoming a "better player" as a result.
