After Everton let Aiden McGeady go to Sheffield Wednesday, Roberto Martinez had one spot left before the transfer window closed. Everton wasted no time as they added a backup striker in Oumar Naisse from Lokomotiv Moscow; the Sengal striker signed a four and a half year deal with the Toffees for a fee of 13.5M Euros.

This also came after Everton failed to sign Dynamo Kiev striker Andriy Yarmolenko

Good striker in Russia

Niasse had a solid scoring record for the Russian club this season as he had scored 13 goals in 23 games for the club.

Lokomotiv are 3rd in the Russian Premier League and are only five points behind leaders CSKA Moscow

Backup needed in the attack

Romelu Lukaku is the main and starting striker for Everton there is no doubt about that. But supposed backup Arouna Kone playing a lot of time on the wing, Everton needed a backup striker off the bench. Combined Kone's play on the wing with the depature of Steven Naismith to Norwich City a few weeks ago and Everton needed to add depth.

He is only 25 years old and maybe some fresh faces in the squad can re-juvenate the Everton squad. Plus with the Toffees still in the FA Cup, he can help with the squad rotation down the stretch of the season.

"He brings a real hunger and desire to be successful into what is already a strong squad." said Martinez (via BBC Sport)

But this signing in all has to work for Roberto Martinez. A string of bad results in the past couple of months combined with a shamble of a season last year has the fans calling for his removal. If this move turns out to be a steal then he could extend his stay and keep the rustling away for a while.
