Sunderland may have lost a couple of key players in their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday, as well as another three points.
The damage in the game was done less than 30 seconds into the second half, with Adam Lallana's flick finding Christian Benteke, the big Belgian slotting home to ultimately win the game.
However, the worry now is on damage to personnel, with a must-win fixture against Aston Villa coming up on Saturday but two players having limped off tonight - whilst another could face retrospective action by the FA.
Injuries galore
Despite their dire situation, with them sitting second-from-bottom in the standings and seven points from safety - Sunderland have not had much bad luck in terms of injuries this season to use as an excuse for their struggles.
Instead, these are hampering them at a time when they really need everyone at their disposal, with players falling to knocks and niggles on the regular now they are in the drop zone.
Sebastian Larsson still isn't back, Younes Kaboul will be out for a further two months with a hamstring problem, and captain John O'Shea was also missing tonight with a problem. Now, Sebastian Coates could also be out.
The Uruguayan limped off the field 18 minutes from time on Wednesday, replaced by DeAndre Yedlin, and Sam Allardyce said after the game that they think he has a "dead leg" following a "collision" with teammate Vito Mannone.
If he is to miss the Villa game, and O'Shea isn't fit enough, that would leave the manager with just two centre-backs - Wes Brown and youngster Tom Beadling, which is worrying for the team to say the least.
Before Coates though, Jack Rodwell was also forced out with what was revealed to be a "hamstring" problem, Duncan Watmore replacing him on the half hour mark. With Larsson still sidelined, the team are already thin in this department too, and this has not helped in the slightest.
Call for action on Lens
Another incident on Wednesday was a tackle by Jeremain Lens on Mamadou Sakho. The Dutch winger flew in on the defender dangerously with what is being dubbed as a leg-breaking challenge, and with good reason.
It was a reckless attempt to win the ball from Lens, who has already seen red once this season and has got into bother off the pitch with his manager too.
Sakho was okay to continue and the Sunderland man was booked for the challenge, but there has been call for retrospective action, with Jürgen Klopp himself saying that it was clearly a "red card" in his post-match interview - Allardyce's response to that being that the coach is "a soft German" if he thinks that.
With referee Kevin Friend having already 'dealt with it,' as they say, the FA are likely to decide against looking at the tackle again though, with Lens a lucky boy if that turns out to be the case.
Must-win game with Villa
Next up for Sunderland now is a crucial relegation six-pointer with Aston Villa - the only team below them in the Premier League table.
Villa have won only one game all season and have just eight points from their 19 games so far, whilst Sunderland have 12 from the same amount of fixtures.
Both will see it as a must-win match if they are to have any chance of staying up, and so it promises to be a well-fought affair but a very scrappy and desperate one too this Saturday.
