Charles N’Zogbia is set to be given a second chance to showcase his skills and impress David Moyes tomorrow against Montpellier, in Sunderland’s final pre-season friendly in the South of France.
The former Newcastle United and Aston Villa winger is a free agent after leaving Villa in the summer, and Sam Allardyce did give him the opportunity to earn himself a contract by taking a trail but that was put on hold.
With Allardyce’s recent departure to take over England manager, it will be his successor Moyes who will now make the decision on whether or not to give the green light for N’Zogbia to play at the Stadium of Light.
Time to shine
It has been so far, so good for N’Zogbia's fitness levels with no question marks over it. However, Moyes will want to make sure that the 30-year-old fits into the system of what he is trying to create at the club before formally offering him a long term deal.
Who is N’Zogbia?
He spent five years at local rivals Newcastle, making over 100 appearances for the Magpies and scoring nine goals before departing to joining Wigan Athletic for £6m back in 2009.
In 2011, he made a £9.5m move to Villa but his time in the Midlands wasn’t a pleasant experience, scoring just four goals in 80 league games in his five years with the Claret and Blue Army.
Appearances for the club dwindled in his last season with Villa only, featuring just twice and spending most of the campaign with the under-21 squad.
But knowing that kind of information, it is no surprise that Moyes wants to make absolutely certain before signing the French international.
