The bottom of the Atlanta Braves lineup carried the offensive load as the Braves captured the second game of the series over the New York Mets 6-4.

A.J. Pierzynski finished the game 3-for-4, a home run shy of the cycle, with three runs scored. One of the runs came in the sixth inning where he tagged from third base on a sacrifice fly by Pedro Ciriaco that would give Atlanta the lead. However, on the play, Mets catcher Travis D’Arnaud would injure his left arm as he and Pierzynski collided as the throw brought him up the third base line.

D’Arnaud would leave the game and is listed as day-to-day with a hyperextended left elbow. On the night D’Arnaud would go 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a homerun that tied the game up at four in the sixth inning. This is the second injury of the season as the Mets catcher came back 10 days after being out seven weeks with a broken hand.

Andrelton Simmons recorded his second four-hit game of the season; both came against the Mets in the last week. Simmons would drive in a run and score twice. Left fielder Eury Perez would have his best game as a Brave as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI. The 6-7-8 spots in the Braves lineup combined to go 9-for-12 with five runs scored and two RBIs.

Williams Perez (4-0, 2.78 ERA) had an up and down outing as he went six innings allowing four runs on five hits. He walked two batters and struck out five. After giving up two runs in the first inning, Perez would retire 12 of the next 13 batters. In the next two innings he would give up solo home runs to Curtis Granderson and Travis D’Arnaud.

Mets rookie right-hander Noah Syndergaard (2-4, 4.03 ERA) struggled once again away from the friendly confines of Citi Field. In four road starts, Syndergaard is winless with an ERA of 6.52. On the night he ended the game only going four innings allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits, while walking two batters and striking out only three.

Jason Grilli recorded his 20th save of the season, the second in as many nights. The Braves bullpen as a whole pitched three scoreless innings allowing only three hits while striking out three batters.

One of the underlying factors in tonight’s loss for the Mets was their defense who committed two fielding errors. In the third inning, Jace Peterson would steal second base and advance to third base on a throwing error by D’Arnaud. Unfortunately for the Mets catcher nobody covered second base and the throw sailed into centerfield without a problem. Peterson would later score on a groundout by Cameron Maybin.

In the fourth inning, Andrelton Simmons would single to centerfield and A.J. Pierzynski would test Juan Lagares by going first to third. Lagares would bobble the ball and Simmons would take second base putting runners at second and third, nobody out. That miscue would lead to two runs in the inning giving the Braves a 4-2 lead.

GAME THREE MATCHUP:

The New York Mets with send their ace to the mound RHP Matt Harvey (7-4, 3.32 ERA) to try and salvage the series and avoid the three-game sweep. Harvey hasn’t pitched at Turner Field since the 2013 season where he got the win by going seven innings allowing three runs and striking out 13 Atlanta batters.

RHP Julio Teheran (4-3, 5.07 ERA) has had a bad season up to this point. In his last five starts, Teheran has gone 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA. Coming into the season Teheran was supposed to be the anchor of the staff, this start against the Matt Harvey and the Mets could turn his season around while completing the three-game sweep and getting the Braves back to .500.
