There are many teams who could use David Price's services for the playoff run. Most teams could use more starting pitching, arguably the most important position in the game of baseball, and a player like David Price who is highly valued across baseball.

Among suitors for David Price could be the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals have lost Adam Wainwright to injury for this season, and have a hole in the ace spot of their rotation. The Cardinals starters have been better than expected so far this season, but that might not last into the postseason. If St. Louis were to trade for David Price, they'd get a top notch left-handed starter who could be their number one guy the rest of the season.

What might it take to get a guy like David Price? From the Cardinals perspective, it would likely take a package that revolves around someone like Alex Reyes, a young right-hander currently pitching in High-A for the Cardinals. He's their number two prospect, and was rated by baseball prospectus as the 55th best prospect entering this season. Fangraphs did an article on him in February of 2014, a little over a year ago, and at that time he already had a 95 MPH fastball, an above average curve for a minor leaguer, and was working on his changeup which has since improved to also be close to a plus pitch. He's only 20-years old and has pitched extremely well in High-A ball this season. He's got an ERA just over two, with 90 strikeouts and 30 walks in 60 innings, and on top of that hasn't allowed a home run this season. While he may not be ready for major league action for around two years, he could be an All-Star talent in the future.

The Cardinals were reportedly interested in David Price last season and could be again should he be shopped at the deadline this year. A trade to the Cardinals would appear to make sense for both sides and could be just what both teams need.

Another team that could use him is the Los Angeles Dodgers. While Joc Pederson might have reached the untouchable status in L.A., the Tigers still have many options should they decide to ship him to the Dodgers. One piece the Tigers could look to get back is 19-year old right-handed starter Grant Holmes. Pitching in Low-A this season, he has a 3.13 ERA, with 80 strikeouts and 33 walks over 60 innings. He's currently ranked as the Dodgers number four prospect, and 74th overall. Last year he was reported as hitting as high as 98 MPH, and had what is being described as a plus curveball with a potential plus changeup. It might be unlikely the Dodgers trade him after only selecting him in the draft last season, but it would be better than trading a player closer to the majors for the Dodgers.

One other team that comes to mind with David Price, and that's the Chicago Cubs. Price has connections with manager Joe Madden, and has said he likes the young talent and team control of the players contracts. Similar to Joc Pederson of the Dodgers, it appears unlikely the Tigers would net Kris Bryant or Addison Russell in a trade for Price, but they could net other top prospects from the Cubs. Names even as notable as Javier Baez and Jorge Soler could be moved for a name like David Price, especially with his signability for the Cubs, who if they were willing to spend a little could easily convince him to stay in the Windy City.

While a David Price trade is still not likely to happen for at least a couple of weeks, it is interesting to imagine what the Tigers could get in return for their top starter this season. It would signal a new beginning for the Tigers and GM Dave Dombrowski would finally be thinking about the future of the squad, and not about making the roster more equipped for a run in the playoffs that seems unlikely this season.
