The Toronto Raptors (30-15) completed their four-game sweep of the Washington Wizards (20-23) Tuesday night with a 106-89 victory in front of their home crowd. All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry was the leading man for Toronto as he scored 29 points.

Toronto’s Backcourt Dominates, Again

Toronto was led tonight by non-other than their dynamic backcourt of Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan. Lowry led all scorers with 29 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, including 5-of-9 from behind the arc. DeRozan finished with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists.

In the four games against the Wizards this season, DeRozan averaged 26.5 points and went a combined 36-of-40 from the charity stripe.

Jonas Valanciunas finished the game with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Terrence Ross came off the bench and scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

Wall’s Effort Not Enough

John Wall led the Wizards with his 25th double-double with 18 points and 14 assists. Otto Porter finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Gary Neal came off the bench and scored 14 points.

On paper Wall’s game stats are very solid, but he wasn’t efficient shooting the ball (6-of-17) and turned the ball over five times. And as the leader of the team on both ends of the floor, Wall has to do a better job of containing Kyle Lowry.

Have to Play Four Quarters, Not One

In the first half, Washington would get down by as many as 14 points in the second quarter. However, the Wizards would end the quarter on a 26-15 run. They would end up tying the game up at 55 early in the third quarter, but that was short-lived and the Raptors would never relinquish the lead. Washington were only down five points with 9:25 left in regulation, but Toronto would go on a 15-4 run to take complete control of the game.

The Wizards scored more than 20 points in a quarter only once tonight. They allowed Toronto to take open shots from behind the arc and they made them pay by knocking down 11. And once again, Washington struggled on the boards as they were outrebounded 48-to-35.

Can Only Get Better, Right?

After reaching the .500 mark with a victory over the Indiana Pacers, the Wizards have lost four of their last five games. Two of those losses have come at the hands of the Boston Celtics and the Raptors, two teams Washington has gone a combined 0-8 against this season.

Luckily for Washington, it’s the last time they will face either team the rest of the season. For some reason both teams seem to matchup better against the Wizards, and with a little less than half a season to go, Washington has a chance to right the ship and turn their season around.

Hottest Team in Basketball

With the victory tonight, the Raptors have won their ninth straight game which matches a franchise-best mark. Of these nine wins, two of them have come at the hands of the Wizards.

During this stretch, the dynamic backcourt of Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan has been on top of their games. Lowry has averaged 21.8 points while DeRozan has averaged 23.7 points.

Bradley Beal Injury Report

The Wizards were without their talented guard Bradley Beal on Tuesday as he suffered a broken nose and a concussion on Monday night against the Boston Celtics. Guard Marcus Smart accidentally elbowed Beal in the nose when he was going in for a layup.

Beal will have to go through the NBA’s concussion protocol before he is able to return to the court. He will remain day-to-day until he is cleared.

Up Next

The Wizards will head home and host the Denver Nuggets on Thursday. The Raptors will remain in Toronto to host the New York Knicks on Thursday.
