According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Johnny Manziel has been dropped by agent Erik Burkhardt. The agent is tired of the off-field mess regarding his client, while Manziel is struggling to take care of his lifestyle.

"It is with deep regret that, after several emotional and very personal discussions with his family, his doctors and my client himself, I have made the decision to terminate my professional relationship with Johnny Manziel," Burkhardt said.

"Though I will remain a friend and Johnny supporter, and he knows I have worked tirelessly to arrange a number of professional options for him to continue to pursue, it has become painfully obvious that his future rests solely in his own hands. His family and I have gone to great lengths to outline the steps we feel he must take to get his life in order. Accountability is the foundation of any relationship, and without it, the function of my work is counterproductive.

"I truly wish the best for Johnny and sincerely hope he can, and will, find the kind of peace and happiness he deserves."

This comes days after Manziel was accused of striking his ex-girlfriend, seeming to be on drugs, and threatening to kill them both. Police used helicopters to assist in their search of Manziel. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Dallas and the Fort Worth police have opted not to press charges against Manziel in his alleged domestic violence case.

A month prior to the move, Manziel was also dropped by LeBron James' marketing firm. The Browns are planning to cut Manziel as soon as possible, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal

We need a very consistent and dominant quarterback,” Jackson said. “That’s what this team has to have in order for us to be successful.

Outside of all of the physical characteristics that we look for in a quarterback, the thing I’m looking for is a guy that’s going to be the face of the franchise, somebody that our players can rally behind, somebody that our fans can rally behind, that they believe that this guy has a chance to go out week in and week out and win games, a guy that can help elevate this football team, not anybody that’s going to tear it down because I think it’s too hard in the National Football League to have a guy like that.

[The quarterback needs to be] all-consumed with one thing: being the best quarterback he can be and being the best leader he can be. That’s the kind of guy I’m looking for.”

The question lies now on what Manziel is going to do next. Some analysts believe he should take a year away from football to work on his life and well-being. In the last week, Manziel has skipped out on rehab twice, which is not a good sign for the future of Manziel on and off the field.

Manziel’s father said, “I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won’t see his 24th birthday.”

Obviously, there is a lot of concern over the health of the quarterback and these problems are much larger than football. At this point, it is very hard to see the 23-year-old on the 53-man roster of an NFL team.
