Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has had a rough year so far when it comes to injuries. After the Seahawks 37-18 win over the San Francisco 49ers, it was revealed that he has an MCL sprain in his left knee. It was the second time in three games that Wilson has been injured.

In their week one win over the Miami Dolphins, Wilson suffered a right ankle injury. The injury clearly limited him in the team’s 9-3 loss the following week against the Los Angeles Rams. In week three against the 49ers, Wilson looked to be a lot more comfortable and played the best first half of the young season so far.

Wilson’s injury

All of that changed in the third quarter. Wilson was running to his right when he was talked by 49ers linebacker, Eli Harold. As he was being tackled, Harold’s body rolled up on Wilson’s left ankle and leg. Wilson immediately grabbed his left knee and the entire city of Seattle collectively held their breath. Wilson would miss one play on the drive but would return to lead the team to a field goal. That would be the last time that Wilson would see the field.

Injury status

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll confirmed on 710 ESPN Seattle that an MRI that was taken of Wilson’s knee showed an MCL Sprain. In regards to how Wilson is feeling, Carroll had this say to Brock and Salk:

“I just left him. He’s unbelievable, OK. He feels great. He’s been rehabbing all night and doing his thing, and he can move around, he’s walking fine. You can’t tell anything. He’s really excited about the thought that he could be able to maybe get through this thing. His ankle came out great. Didn’t have any issues with that at all.”

Carroll continued; “He’s responded beautifully to it. We’ll give him a couple days and see if anything changes with that, but the first report, getting up in the morning, getting up in the middle of the night and doing his rehab, turned out just exceedingly well.”

When speaking with the media after the game on Sunday, Wilson said didn’t believe the injury was as severe as it looked and that he would be “good to go” for this coming weekend’s game against the New York Jets.

Will he play or will he sit?

Now the question heading into their game against the Jets is will they play him or will they make him sit? The Seahawks backup quarterback is undrafted rookie Trevone Boykin. Boykin played the majority of the second half against the 49ers and went 7-9 for 65 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Will Carroll and the rest of the coaching staff rely on Boykin and their running game to beat the Jets and rest Wilson or will they risk further injury to Wilson in hopes of heading into the bye week with a 3-1 record? Time will only tell.
