Austin FC continued their fairytale season, recording another comeback victory with a 4-3 triumph over Sporting Kansas City at the Q2 Stadium.

The visitors were two goals in front following some shaky play at the back from the Verde and Black with Andreu Fontas and William Aganda scoring within the first 25 minutes.

Jon Gallagher got Austin on the board, but Johnny Russell put Kansas City in front 3-1 with a penalty kick.

Julio Cascante cut the deficit to a single goal, Danny Hoesen tied the game in the 85th minute and Sebastian Driussi won it with his league-leading 17th goal.

Story of the match

Kansas City struck first thanks to defensive miscues by Austin. After Alex Ring committed a foul on the edge of the penalty area, Russell's free-kick wasn't held by Brad Stuver and Fontas was on hand to put the rebound into the empty net.

In the 23rd minute, the visitors doubled their advantage. A through ball from Graham Zusi found Roger Espinoza, his shot only parried by Stuver and Agade scored on the rebound.

Four minutes later, the Verde and Black cut the lead in half as from a recycled corner, Diego Fagundez had the ball on the right wing and his cross into the box was only cleared as far as Gallagher, who fired home into the left home corner.

The hosts gave away a penalty five minutes from halftime when Ethan Finlay brought down Erik Thommy in the box and Russell stepped up to the penalty spot and converted to restore Kansas City's two-goal lead heading into halftime.

Stuver came up with two huge saves in the early stages of the second half, which set the stage for Austin's comeback.

Juat after the hour mark, Hoesen found Driussi on the right side of the penalty area. His cross was deflected by an SKC defender and Cascante was quickest to react, heading back across goal past Jon Pulskamp.

The match was even in the 85th minute as a free-kick was cleared to Felipe at the halfway line and he volleyed over the top to Hoesen, who turned and hit the ball off the volley off the left post and in.

Deep in stoppage time, the comeback was complete. Zan Kolmanic sent a cross to the back post, Finlay knocked the ball down to the penalty spot and with a late run, Driussi beat Pulskamp to cap off a remarkable comeback.

Man of the match: Sebastian Driussi

Who else? He's had one of the best seasons in league history and his late winner only adds to his collection of memorable moments from this campaign.
