After beating Venus Williams a few weeks ago, Daria Kasatkina had the opportunity to do the double over the Williams sisters, something not many players have managed. However, after just under a quater of an hour, any dreams of this were over as Serena Williams cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Williams Races Through The First Set

The world number one got the match underway by holding her service game. Momentum was soon with the American, as a double fault from Kasatkina allowed her to take the break and a 2-0 lead.

After another hold of serve by Williams, it looked like there was no hope for her young opponent. In the fourth game, Kasatkina gave herself a fighting chance in the set by holding her serve. The Russian managed to save two break points, with help from Williams who hit a couple of backhand shots into the net.

Not capitalising on two break point opportunities did not deter Williams, who held her serve to love in the next game. At 30-30 in the sixth game, Kasatkina's approach shot clipped the net cord but instead of going over, it landed on her side of the court. This was a major turning point in the game, as it gifted the world number one a break point opportunity, which she capitalised on.

With a double break and a 5-1 lead, Williams was serving for the set. Once again, the defending champion managed to hold her service game to love to take the first set in 22 minutes.

Williams Dominates Again

The second set started off in the worst possible way for the Russian who got broken in the very first game. Soon she was down 2-0 as the world number one consolidated the break, by holding to love.

Kasatkina won her first game a lot earlier than she did in the set before. In the third game of the set the world number 69 held her serve, saving a break point in the process.

From here, it was all downhill for the Russian, as she only took one point in the next four games. The world number one was in a dominant mood, holding her two service games to love, while also breaking her opponents serve to love in the process.

With a 5-1 lead, the American just had to break serve once more to take the set. At 40-0 down in her service game, Kasatkina saved one match point. However the marging was too large for her to overcome, as Williams took the match with the very next point.

After 44 minutes, Williams had took the match to progress to the fourth round where she will face Margarita Gasparyan.
