Nathaniel Clyne has stated that he wants play Champions League football, as speculation about a move away from Southampton gathers pace.

The right-back insists he is fully focused on the rest of his season with the Saints, however he is set to hold talks about his future in the summer.

Clyne is reportedly a target for Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United and the England International has added fuel to speculation about a move away, admitting a desire to win trophies and play in Europe’s premier competition.

Clyne said: “It’s always good to have teams looking out for you, it shows how well you’ve been doing all season. I am going to take that, and keep on performing and be the best player I can be.

“Right now I’m concentrating on playing for Southampton, there are still games to play, and try to push for that fourth spot.

“I am an ambitious person and I want to play Champions League football. To win the title and the FA Cup, that is what I want.

Manager Ronald Koeman has also admitted it may be difficult to hang on to the full back with the likes of Manchester United watching with interest. Southampton currently lie fifth in the Premier League table four points behind Manchester City and a Champions League place.

A final day fixture at the Etihad starts to grow more and more important with each passing result, it is rapidly becoming a game that could not only decide the final Champions League spot but the future of one of Southampton and Ronald Koeman’s top performers.
