Scunthorpe United have signed Leeds midfielder Isaac Assenso on a one year contract.

18-year-old Assenso, who was released by Leeds last month, had a trial period with The Iron and impressed enough to be offered a contract.

Assenso becomes Scunthorpe’s fourth summer signing after the arrivals of Scott Wiseman and Jack King from Preston North End, and Stephen Dawson from Rochdale.

Assenso’s departure from Elland Road has come as a surprise, with former boss Neil Redfearn singing the teenager’s praises less than a year ago.

“Isaac Assenso, who was a second half substitute, was our best player and his dominance in midfield went a long way to our good second half display,” he told the club website in August last year.

The Glanford Park outfit have decided to take a chance on the young midfielder, who can also play at the back.

The Lincolnshire side will be hoping to add more quality to the squad ahead of next season as they look to make an assault at the top end of League One.
