Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon is among the early favourites for the Leicester job, following the dismissal of Nigel Pearson.

Pearson was sacked last night despite guiding Leicester to Premier League safety just over a month ago, with the club pointing to ‘fundamental differences’ as their reason for terminating his contract.

Many are speculating that the sudden dismissal could be linked with the recent scandal involving his son, James Pearson.

Plenty of names in the hat

The bookies are already taking short odds on Bolton boss Lennon with Burnley chief Sean Dyche, and the recently out of work Sam Allardyce also in the running.

But Lennon seems to be the stand out candidate at this premature stage, with his four years as a player for the club putting him in good stead for the job.

Former Manchester United man David Moyes, current Leicester veteran Esteban Cambiasso and the Northern Ireland boss Martin O’Neil have all also been linked with the role.

Pearson enjoyed two tenures at the helm of Leicester City with the second lasting three and a half years. Having led the side to promotion to the Premier League in 2013/14 he then kept the Foxes in the division the following season.

Former Fox far from happy

Following the heroics of last season, his sacking has left many fans of the club baffled with Match of the Day host Gary Linker voicing his disapproval on twitter:

“Leicester City have sacked Nigel Pearson! Really? Could you kindly reinstate him like the last time you sacked him?”

Pearson enjoyed his fair share of controversy in his first year as a Premier League manager, grappling James McCarthur, swearing at a supporter during a match and calling a journalist an ostrich, perhaps the most comical of the lot.
