With Christian Benteke set to be announced as a Liverpool player this week, fans are still wondering how he will fit into the the team's system.

Benteke's style of play is completely different to Liverpool's style of play, and it is unclear who will change to accommodate the other.

Liverpool mainly played with a lone striker for most of last year, following the departure of Luis Suarez, and the result led to the Reds scoring 49 less goals than the season before.

Brendan Rodgers has bolstered his attacking options this summer with the arrival of Danny Ings and the return of Divock Origi, as well as the imminent arrival of Benteke, but will Liverpool continue with playing one striker or opt to revisit the option with two up front?

Sturridge and Benteke

These two strikers will be the men hoping to fire Liverpool back into the Champions League. Daniel Sturridge has a great goal scoring record at Liverpool and is widely regarded as the club's best striker, whilst Benteke has a huge transfer fee to payback.

They'll either both be competing for one spot or could be played up front together. It will be interesting to see how these two would work together, since they have both played a different style of football throughout their career's.

Benteke could be the player to win headers up front, flicking them onto Sturridge who could then use his pace to then advance towards the goal. Benteke can also be the man to hold up the ball, with his strength, allowing Sturridge to then offer his support up front.

Partnerships similar to Sturridge and Benteke

A partnership that could be similar to Sturridge and Benteke is when Liverpool had Suarez and Andy Carroll playing upfront together.

Both these players had their own style of play and from memory, it did not work as well as fans hoped it would.

A time when this partnership almost worked perfectly was in the 2012 FA Cup Final against Chelsea. Although Carroll did not start, he came off the bench to score a goal that put Liverpool back into the final.

At 2-1 down, Suarez crossed a perfect ball to Carroll whose bullet header was somehow clawed from off the line from Petr Cech. If it had gone in, these two players may have found the goal that would've solidified their partnership and showed opposites style can accommodate each other.

Can it work this time?

Benteke is mainly known for his aerial dominance and would certainly score more goals with a team that can constantly supply him with crosses, however he has shown at times with Aston Villa, he can dribble with the ball well and has a powerful right foot.

With Sturridge's pace, he will be able to fly down the wings and supply crosses to Benteke often. The Belgian will be able to flick a few through balls through to Sturridge to run onto, as well as shield the ball upfront, allowing his new striking partner to get into position.

In conclusion, you can argue that both of these players are proven goal scorers in the Premier League and Liverpool fans should be more optimistic, than pessimistic.
