Hull City are close to completing two more signings, according to the Nottingham Post.

It is understood that the recently-relegated side are on the verge of completing deals for both Ryan Taylor and Sam Clucas.

Taylor is a free agent following his controversial release from Newcastle United this summer, with them informing him of the decision over the phone, whilst Clucas will cost Hull £1.3 million from Chesterfield.

Manager confirms deals are close

Hull manager Steve Bruce, via the Nottingham Post, confirmed that both players are almost on the books at the Tigers.

The manager first said that the club "are close to reaching an agreement with [Taylor]," a player he described as one who will be an "important" addition to the team as they bid to achieve an immediate return to the Premier League.

Bruce revealed that Taylor "proved his fitness" to Hull, after a series of injuries, when he "trained with [them] last week" and added that he is "delighted" that the deal is near.

As for Clucas, the manager said that he is "hopefully also a done deal." He said that the player is flying to Hull to "[have] his medical" and is confident that the deal will be done "over the next 48 hours."

Taylor can add experience as Clucas adds promise

A right-back who has spent eight seasons in the English top flight with both Newcastle and Wigan Athletic, 30-year-old Taylor will bring plenty of experience to this Hull side, which could go on to be crucial as they look to win promotion back to the top division.

As well as this, though the likes of James Chester, Alex Bruce and Ahmed Elmohamady can all adapt to play as a right-back, Hull do not boast a natural in this position and Taylor can offer exactly that - especially with some of these cover players linked with moves elsewhere this summer.

As for Clucas, the 24-year-old can bolster Hull's attack and also add some youthful creativity to the side. He managed nine goals from midfield for Chesterfield in League One last season as they made the play-offs, only for them to lose to eventual winners Preston North End in the semi-finals.
