Sunderland striker Danny Graham is interested in returning to Blackburn Rovers when his contract on Wearside expires this summer, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

The forward spent the second half of the season on loan at the Championship club, and is believed to be inclined to head back to Lancashire now that Owen Coyle has been appointed as Paul Lambert's successor as manager.

The 30-year-old moved to Blackburn in January following the sale of Jordan Rhodes, who moved to MiddlesbroughThe former Watford and Swansea City player proved to be an adequate replacement for the Scottish goal-scorer, netting seven goals in 18 appearances as Blackburn finished 15th in the second tier.

Interest from elsewhere in Graham

With Graham set to be available on a free come July 1, the Gateshead-born striker has a list of potential suitors as he weighs up his options.

As well as Blackburn, Graham is attracting interest from other Championship clubs such as Birmingham City, Preston North End and newly promoted Wigan Athletic.

There is also interest north of the border in Scotland, with Celtic and Rangers enquiring about Graham.

However, Graham is believed to be interested in signing for Blackburn permanently, now that former Bolton Wanderers and Burnley boss Coyle has been appointed.

Since his arrival, Coyle has hinted at interest in Graham, describing him as a "good player" who will have "some very big offers on the table".

"He's an outstanding player, somebody I've always liked, and that's all relative to what we can do," said Coyle.

A failed return to the North East for Graham

Graham arrived at Sunderland in 2013 for £5 million from Premier League rivals Swansea, but failed to light up the North East, where he was born and began his career in 2004 with Middlesbrough.

The striker scored one goal in his time at the Stadium of Light, and that goal actually came away from home in a victory away to Everton during last season's great escape under Dick Advocaat.

Graham has had four loan spells during his Sunderland career, having played for Hull City, Middlesbrough, Wolverhampton Wanderers and his potential new employers Blackburn.
