If anyone believed Glasgow City were on the down, that was proved wrong as they produced a magnificent performance to beat Forfar Farmington 8-0. Stirling University picked up an impressive draw with Spartans to move off the bottom of the SWPL 1 table.
Glasgow City 8-0 Forfar Farmington
Glasgow City went into their match against Forfar Farmington knowing that they had to win to be sure of staying top and Forfar were looking to move away from the bottom.
City gave debuts to Hayley Rosen and Keeva Keenan and Rosen assisted City's opener from a free-kick in the 20th minute which was headed in by Lauren McMurchie. Soon after, Leanne Ross scored a solo goal to double the SWPL 1 leaders' lead.
Rosen turned provider once again for the third in the 40th minute, this time, converted by Fiona Brown who scored with a precise finish. A handball gave City a penalty, which Ross converted to make it 4-0. And on the stroke of half-time, Savannah McCarthy scored.
In the first minute of the second half, City made it 6-o through Erin Cuthbert, but Julie Fleeting scored minutes later.
Forfar had a chance to pull a goal back when Kayleigh Noble was fouled by Carla Boyce, but Holly Napier's effort was saved by City's keeper Gemma Fay.
A Ross corner picked out Fleeting who headed in City's eighth goal.
In the final minute, Forfar could have scored a consolation but Jade McLaren's header was clawed off the line by Fay.
Rangers 2-0 Aberdeen
Aberdeen travelled down to Rangers under new management but they came back with a defeat, although there were promising signs that they could have a turnaround in results.
After a cagey opening, Rangers had a couple of chances with Chantelle Brown heading wide and Katey Turner shooting wide.
Late on in the first half, Nikki Smith had a chance for Aberdeen but she shot over.
Two minutes into the second half, Rangers took the lead when Lisa Swanson blasted the ball into the top corner.
Aberdeen could have equalised soon after, but Rangers managed to clear the ball off the line.
Late on, Rangers won a penalty. Although Clare Gemmell had her effort saved by Becky Flaherty, Sarah Robertson was on hand to score the rebound.
Celtic 1-2 Hibernian
Third hosted second, and once again, the game was exciting until the closing moment.
Hibernian took the lead through Lizzie Arnot whose shot/cross went in off the far post. Their lead though only lasted six minutes, when a lovely team move from Celtic saw them dissect the Hibs' defence and Suzanne Mulvey converted.
They could have taken the lead, but Kirsty Howat shot just wide.
Hibs had a couple of chances, with Sarah Ewens' header saved by Celtic's keeper and Lucy Graham's long-range lob just going over the crossbar.
Late on, there was a delay as Siobhan Hunter suffered a head injury and had to be replaced by Emma Brownlie.
But it looked like Celtic would take points off either of the top two sides until Brownlie's corner found Hibs' captain Joelle Murray who blasted the ball into the top corner with the last kick of the game.
Stirling University 2-2 Spartans
Stirling University picked up a crucial point to move off the bottom of the SWPL 1 against one of the inform sides Spartans.
Spartans took the lead just after the half-hour mark when Louise Mason's inswinging corner was headed in by Katie Reilly.
Just before half-time, Stirling equalised when Jade Gallon's corner found Rachel Donaldson who headed in.
Early on in the second half, Spartans once again took the lead through Alana Marshall's strike.
Stirling had a great chance to equalise when they won a penalty, but Gallon's effort was saved by Corrie Mcllravery after the ball had hit the inside of the post.
And then they did equalise when Nicole Pullar launched a break and calmly converted the chance to secure a crucial point.
