Fresh from signing a new deal, which will tie him down to the North London club until 2021, Eric Dier has claimed that Wembley will only be an advantage for Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs are expected to host 85,000 Tottenham fans at the national stadium after selling out their opening game as they return to the UEFA Champions League. This will break Spurs’ record attendance for a home game of 75,038 and the midfielder can only see this as extra motivation to do better.

The Lilywhites will start their Champions League campaign in Group E and will face Monaco at home before visiting CSKA Moscow followed by Bayer Leverkusen. They will then host Bayer at Wembley before travelling to Monaco and finishing with Moscow at home.

Excitement for Wembley

Dier expressed his excitement in the build up to the game against Monaco, which kicks off at 8.00GMT on September 14th. Tottenham faced the French side in the UEFA Europa League last season, which say Spurs leave triumphant with a 4-1 win at home and 1-1 draw in France. However, Dier added that it “will be a different match and it’s difficult to compare [the two]”.

The Englishman also commented that “it’s going to be fantastic” as everyone is “excited” to be part of the tournament that is at “the highest level of football”. He went on to encourage his teammates to “take that challenge”. He added that Wembley will make it “very special”.

Dier went onto express his desire to “create some great new memories for Tottenham fans”. With a vast amount of Tottenham fans expected to attend Dier added that he is looking forward to the “fantastic” atmosphere, which will be produced.  The midfielder concluded by saying that the “bigger” pitch could also be an advantage and hopefully will “be a benefit for us”.
