Walter Mazzarri believes that Watford’s 1-0 win against Hull City was completely deserved. The Hornets were given the lead in with just eight minutes remaining through a Michael Dawson own-goal.

Watford were the deserved winners after dominating the game. The Hornets had 54% possession, while they also took 23 shots at goal compared to Hull’s eight. The result means Watford move into seventh place, above Manchester United and champions Leicester City. While Mazzarri will be happy that his team have not lost once in their last seven league games.

Warranted Win

The Watford boss explained that he is “satisfied with the result” after a good start. Mazzarri stated that the first 30 minutes were “exactly how I want my team to play” before adding that “we started very quickly and we hit the bar and post, so we deserved to go ahead once or twice”.

The Italian then explained that he is proud that the team “worked vey hard at the beginning” while empathising with his squad as when “you don’t score [after using a lot of energy] that the game gets harder”.

He concluded by saying that “It’s tough to go 90 minutes how we did in the first five, but at the end there was no doubt who deserved the victory”.

Janmaat’s return

Mazzarri has also expressed his joy for Daryl Janmaat who was introduced from the bench after returning from a recent shoulder injury. The manager commented that he is “very, very happy to have him back” as “he is a player we missed a lot in the last couple of weeks”. Mazzarri is also hopeful that a number of key figures will return shortly commenting that, “I would’ve liked us to have had the likes of Okaka, Success and Cathcart back with us as well”.
