Allan Saint-Maximin was undoubtedly the man of the match in Newcastle United's routine win over AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday night as he assisted three of the four goals scored by his side.

However, there was one point leading up to kick-off at the Vitality Stadium where it looked like the French winger would miss out due to injury.

Interestingly Saint-Maximin claimed that it is the recent lockdown that has helped him to return to fitness and cope with four games in quick succession since the re-start.

"I am recovering really well," revealed Saint-Maximin.

"The lockdown has given me the opportunity to work really hard at home and get ready to help my team.

"I'm really happy to recover so well and I just want to keep going and help my team as much as possible."

Winning is all that matters

Despite being the star man on the South Coast Saint-Maximin wasn't too keen to take all the praise, admitting that he just wants his side to win three points on the pitch.

This is what the attacker wants to continue doing over the coming weeks as the season nears its conclusion.

"I'm happy because we won," the former Nice man said.

"I don't think about getting three assists as I just want to win and keep going.

"We're now on 42 points and we have a big game at West Ham coming up and we want to win that to get onto 45 points as that would be really good."

A great team performance

It's clear that Saint-Maximin believes the team performance is what matters, rather than what he does to help as an individual.

He was quick to praise his teammates for what may have been the best 90 minutes from a Newcastle side this season.

"It's really good when we play like this," Saint-Maximin said.

"I think that every player likes it when we play good football and we did that in this game.

"We have to keep going to improve and I hope that we can do the same thing again against West Ham."
